About Chernoff Law

Why Choose Ed Chernoff as Your Criminal Lawyer in Houston and the Surrounding Areas?

If you have been arrested for any criminal charge in Texas, you need an experienced criminal defense attorney to protect you. A criminal conviction can follow you for the rest of your life, affecting your career, your family, and your future. If you have prior offenses, you already know the State will push aggressively for jail or prison time.

My job is to stop that from happening.

I am board certified in criminal law, highly experienced in the courtroom, and known for taking an aggressive, strategic approach to defense. This is not a situation where you can afford to be underprepared. When your freedom is on the line, you need an attorney with real trial experience and a reputation for standing firm against the government.

Meet Ed Chernoff, Founding Attorney

I am a former Chief Prosecutor in Harris County and am Board Certified in Criminal Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. I handle serious criminal matters throughout Houston and the surrounding areas, and I bring both prosecutorial insight and defense-focused strategy to every case I take on.

I believe clients deserve direct communication, honest assessments, and a defense strategy grounded in experience—not promises or gimmicks.

Meet Our Team

While I remain directly involved in every case my firm accepts, Chernoff Law is strengthened by working alongside accomplished criminal defense attorneys who share my commitment to disciplined preparation, strategic thinking, and relentless advocacy.

Neal Davis III — Of Counsel

Neal Davis III brings more than three decades of experience in the criminal justice system to Chernoff Law. As Of Counsel, Neal provides deep trial insight and strategic perspective across complex state and federal matters.

Before becoming a lawyer, Neal served as a police officer with the Houston Police Department, investigating cases ranging from theft to capital murder. He has since tried more than eighty cases, including capital murder, sexual assault, federal drug offenses, federal hate-crime prosecutions, and white-collar matters. He has argued appeals in Texas appellate courts, federal circuit courts, and successfully petitioned the United States Supreme Court for certiorari.

Neal’s background in law enforcement, combined with his extensive trial and appellate experience, adds meaningful strength to our firm’s ability to analyze cases from every angle.

Why Should You Hire Me for Your Criminal Case?

My clients trust me because I prepare thoroughly, speak honestly, and fight relentlessly. I do not quit when a case becomes difficult, and I do not back down when the State applies pressure.

Clients feel confident in my advice because I have handled their situations before—often many times. They know I understand how prosecutors think, how cases are built, and where they are most vulnerable. That experience matters, especially when your future is at stake.

You Need an Experienced Criminal Defense Attorney to Protect Your Rights

From the moment you contact my office, I take steps to protect you from further harm. I guide you through the criminal process, advise you on what to say—and what not to say—and work to limit unnecessary exposure to law enforcement and investigators.

My staff communicates clearly and consistently throughout your case. We return calls. We answer questions. I do not nickel-and-dime clients for basic communication, and my fees are reasonable and transparent.

I understand there are many law firm websites making similar claims. Very few attorneys, however, have the experience, resolve, and ability to stand between you and the government when everything is on the line. Do your research. When you do, I am confident you will understand why Chernoff Law is the firm you want protecting your future.
